With the exciting feeling of selling your home and moving to a new one comes the often daunting task of moving itself. While getting everything from your previous home to your new home is no small task, it would be greatly unfortunate if the stress from that overshadowed the joy of your gorgeous new piece of real estate. To help swing those emotions in your favor, here are a few helpful tips to make the moving process less stressful and easier to manage.
Essential Items
Packing a somewhat large bag with any essentials you’ll need right away can cut down on frantic searching through boxes to find that left sock while getting dressed for work the next morning. If, indeed, you are working the next day, pack a work-appropriate change of clothes in this bag. It’s also a good idea to put your toiletries in this bag as well to keep those teeth clean and that hair conditioned. Lastly, you can include any portable electronics to keep those at the ready and lessen the chance of them getting stolen during the move.
Clearly in First
Picking up one or two of those plastic, see-through boxes is a wonderful idea. In these boxes, you can pack things like box cutters, paper towels, trash bags, utensils, chargers, tools, and other readily needed items. With the box being clear, you’ll easily be able to get to these things that you’ll find yourself needing upon initially moving in.
Clothing Versatility
Using your clothes as more than just beautiful garments to adorn yourself with is a cost-efficient and space-efficient way to pack certain items. You can wrap delicate kitchenware in attire such as t-shirts, which saves on bubble wrap. Additionally, you can stuff your glasses and stemware in (clean) socks for further padding.
Efficient, Effective, Easy Labeling
It is commonly known that labeling the moving boxes informing you of their general contents is a good idea, but let’s take that a step further. Since you’re already going to be doing some labeling, why not tack on what section or room of the house they’ll be going into. That way, your cups won’t end up in the bedroom alongside some “miscellaneous” items meant for your garage tool shed.
Put In A Little Extra Effort – Why Not?
You’re just about to be putting in some arguably strenuous hours unpacking those boxes and getting everything looking as perfect as the house itself, so why not start a little early and clean the bathroom and kitchen. While you’ll probably be ordering take-out for the first few nights, having a clean kitchen upon moving completion is far better than having a kitchen that needs cleaning. As for the bathroom, some well-deserved hot showers or baths will definitely be desired after each unpacking day, and there’s nothing better than a recently cleaned bathroom for just that. Just add bubbles.
Your New Best Friend
Press n Seal Wrap. Get a few rolls and use them at will. You can securely wrap clothing drawers, jewelry displays, and anything else that might otherwise be tedious to move. While it can be helpful for those items, here’s an additional pro-tip: cover the openings of toiletries such as delicate bottles with saran wrap, and then stick the top back on them. That way, they’ll free you from the worry of them breaking or leaking. Also a great idea for traveling, especially if you’re going up to altitude.
